Psychological Evaluations

Psychological testing can help answer questions about emotional and behavioral functioning, learning issues, and academic concerns. For forensic evaluations, the court has the privilege of knowing any information you reveal during the course of an evaluation. CAMPBELL PSYCHOLOGICAL SERVICES, LLC has no control over how the results of a psychological evaluation will be used in court or by any person or organization to whom the report is released. When an agency has referred a client for a psychological evaluation, the report is the property of the referring agency. However, individuals are always entitled to receive feedback about the test results.

Psychological evaluations include assessment of cognitive functioning, educational achievement and levels of academic mastery, as well as emotional and personality functioning. They are completed over the course of two or three two-hour sessions. During the last session, the psychologist provides feedback to the client about the test results. All assessments include a detailed interview about one’s background, a review of the areas of concern and a review of any prior evaluations that may have been completed.

There are several types of evaluations that are performed at CPS. The type of evaluation is dependent upon the questions that you or the referral source needs answered.  A general overview of the types of evaluations that CPS offers are listed below.

Psycho-Educational:
This is an assessment of the following skill areas: visual perceptual motor integration, intelligence, memory, adaptive behavioral functioning (if necessary) and achievement. This type of evaluation is one that typically determines the presences of learning differences or disabilities.
Clinical Evaluation:
This is an assessment of social, behavioral, personality and emotional functioning through the use of observation, projective measures, objective behavioral ratings and self report measures. A clinical assessment may also include a substance abuse evaluation and parenting stress assessment.
ADHD Assessment: This evaluation is conducted to determine if one has Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. It includes a classroom observation (for school aged children), psycho-educational assessment, a test of vigilance and attention (continuous performance task), as well as objective and subjective behavioral ratings.
Comprehensive: This evaluation is a combination of the psycho-educational and clinical evaluation and may or may not include an ADHD assessment.
Law Enforcement Pre-Employment Selection Screening: CPS is presently the subcontractor for The Special Psychological Services Group www.policepsychology.com under a Minority Owned Business Subcontractor Plan to perform Pre-Employment Evaluations and Special Duty Evaluations for Montgomery County candidates applying for positions in the Sheriff’s Department, Police Department, Fire Department, and Corrections and Rehabilitation Department. Pre-employment screening is usually conducted in one day and consists of the administration of standardized tests which measure essential features thought to be necessary for the job and an hour-long interview with a psychologist. This is a special circumstance in that the psychological report and related test materials that are generated are the property of the hiring department and are not released to the candidate seeking employment. The testing, which can take up to four hours, is followed by a structured interview by a psychologist.
